Spring cleaning is one of the most rewarding seasons. It offers the opportunity to declutter and prepare your home for the vibrant days of spring and summer.
It can usually take a few weeks to get everything squeaky clean, but with these spring cleaning tips, we can hopefully shorten that time to a few days!
It’s a big season of cleaning and decluttering, so we will also discuss the cleaning products you actually need to get the job done!
Spring cleaning may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tips and tricks, it’s entirely manageable!
What is the meaning of spring cleaning?
Spring cleaning is a season when you deep clean and declutter your home. You can also include cleaning and decluttering your garage and fixing up the yard for the year.
It’s a great time to get rid of clutter, put away your snow season gear, and get the spring and summer things out.
You can set up an organizing system to make the flow of your home more seamless.
Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks
Create a Spring Cleaning Checklist
Spring cleaning is a big project, and one of the best ways to stay on track is by creating a checklist. This way, you will know precisely what you have done and what’s left.
A Spring Cleaning Checklist also helps you plan where to start. It will make it less overwhelming!
Divide Your House Into Sections
Divide your house into sections. That way, you can stay on track and sane!
For example, a great spring cleaning schedule that includes dividing your home into sections can look like this…
Day 1: Main Focus is The Bedrooms
Day 2: Bathrooms
Day 3: Office & Laundry Room
Day 4: Kitchen & Dining Area
Day 5: Living Room
Day 6: The Garage
Day 7: The Front and Backyard
Focus on One Section at a Time
Focus on a section each day. Don’t try to clean the entire house in one day! It is not possible. Also, if you have little ones, you do not need to blow a top because they’re whining, needing attention, being fed, or tired. I mean, the list can go on with little feet running around.
Focusing a section at a time will help you stay on track with your spring cleaning without stressing and blowing up on your kids!
Start with Decluttering
Decluttering first will help you avoid cleaning around the clutter you know you need to get rid of. It will also make cleaning and organizing much more manageable.
One thing to change in your lifestyle as you’re decluttering is to not introduce the clutter again. You don’t need everything that catches your eye! It looks pretty on the isle but becomes clutter as soon as it enters the door.
Organize
Organize the sections you just finished decluttering. Family Dollar or Dollar Tree is a great place to buy storage bins or baskets. The containers or baskets are not heavy-duty, but they get the job done!
Now, if you need heavy-duty storage bins to store winter gear, decor items, or heavy things in general, these are the go-to!!!
Home Systems
One of the best spring cleaning tips is to set up a system to keep your home well-organized and tidy. This includes researching ways to organize your home, closets, countertops, bedrooms, etc., and avoiding welcoming more clutter into the home.
Maire Kondo is an excellent example of where you can learn organizing tips and ways to declutter your home. She explains it well in her book “The Life-Chaning Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.”

Clean Top to Bottom
Cleaning from top to bottom will make your cleaning go so much smoother! If you start cleaning the baseboards first and leaving the ceiling fans and lights last, all the dust can fall onto them, leaving you to clean them again. Nobody wants to clean the baseboards more than they really need to, lol!
Outside Windows
Use a cheaper sponge mop from the dollar store to scrub the outside of your Windows! Pour some soap in warm water, and bam, clean outside windows. Rinse with water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
Soapy Water
Honestly, soap and water do a fantastic job cleaning just about anything and everything. You do not need all the cleaning products currently on the market.
Sure, if you need to get really deep into some areas, a spray or paste might be beneficial, but seriously, just a little bit of soap and some water, combined with good old elbow grease, will get the job done!
Spring Cleaning Tips for Products You Need!!

Everything here on the list is made of cleaning products that will actually help you out and last longer than the cheaper junk you will find everywhere!
O Cedar Mop
Save your back and buy yourself an O’Cedar Mop. IT’S A GAME CHANGER!! If your home is mostly hardwood, this is the mop for you; there are no ifs, buts, or ands. It is so amazing. I will never buy a mop different from this one.
If saving your back doesn’t convince you enough, then hear me out! You only need to buy the bucket once and the mop stick; afterward, all you need are the mop heads, which are so affordable.
Scub Mommy (THE BEST SPONGE EVER!)
Scrub Mommys are THE BEST sponges out there. They seriously last FOREVER!! The Scrub Mommy is much better than the Scrub Daddy because it has a sponge and rough scrubber on the other side.
Dawn Powerwash Soap
I pledge by the Dawn Powerwash Soap. It sprays like magic and truly gets the gunk out of everything! It also smells soooo good!
You can use it on any surface!
Microfiber towels
Save the planet a little by buying microfiber towels instead of using lots of paper towels to clean. (That sentence sounds like it needs to be in a commercial, haha!) You can use these Microfiber towels literally everywhere!
They are excellent for dusting, cleaning the bathroom, and using as a sink rag!
Glass Cleaner
The windows are a big part of your spring cleaning project. The Sprayway Glass Cleaner is by far THE BEST glass cleaner product on the market! It’s also highly affordable and lasts you quite some time!
If you buy this glass cleaner bundle, it will last you FOREVER!!
Multi-Surface Disinfectant
Remember to buy your favorite Multi-surface Disinfectant!! One thing to make sure of is to buy a Multi-Surface Disinfectant that actually disinfects, not one that is just a multi-surface cleaner. Look for a product that kills germs and bacteria, providing a safe and healthy environment for your family as you clean.
The Seventh Generation Disinfectant is the GO-TO!!
You can always stick to the Lysol Spray & Clorox Spray; it does the job well, too!!
