This blog post is all about finding your way back to God.
It’s hard to start again.
One day you’re in the Word and in fellowship; the next, you realize it’s been months since you opened your Bible or stepped foot in church.
Shame whispers you’re unworthy, and Satan celebrates.
But God’s arms are open, ready to forgive and restore.
Here’s your roadmap back: five practical, Scripture-based steps to rebuild your faith, overcome spiritual warfare, and rediscover the joy of His presence.
It is Hard to Start… Again
It is HARD to start again.
You may feel guilt and shame or may see it as a chore to start reading your bible and going to Church.
But I genuinely believe if you’re reading this, God might be calling you back. You may feel an ache in your heart and a longing, but you feel utterly lost about where to start.
There are several reasons why finding your way back can be challenging.
- Satan does not want you to have a relationship with God. Even if he didn’t have you committing serious sins, if he made you busy enough to forget God, that’s a win for him.
- Satan knows that God longs for a relationship with you, and He’s ready to forgive and keep you under His wing. So he will exacerbate your sins and shame, so it keeps you away from God.
- It is seriously a Spiritual Warfare that you are fighting against.
- “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.“ Ephesians 6:12 NIV
- You may see God as unreachable. Too good for humanity. Too pure to see someone like you. These are all Satan’s lies.
The further Satan keeps you away from God, the better it is for him and the worse it is for you. The way he attacks a person depends on the person’s weakness.
Finding Your Way Back to God

Step 1: Reading the Bible
Reading the Bible is essential when you’re seeking to reconnect with God. There is no other way to know Him. This New Living Translation Illustrated Study Bible is the ABSOLUTE BEST for beginners.
You need to read The Word and meditate on it day and night. It is your saving grace. Psalms 1:2
The Bible is God’s way of communicating with you. It serves as a protective guide, shielding you not only from the world and its distractions but also from false teachers and misleading Christian denominations. It acts as a shining light amidst darkness, providing you with the tools to battle the unseen spiritual warfare that surrounds you. It provides never-changing wisdom.
This is a step you can’t skip when you’re finding your way back to Him.
In this blog post, I write all about the Best Study Bible & Bible Commentaries to be able to understand scripture fully.
Step 2: Forget Everything You Know & Start New
Forget the traditions, do’s and don’ts, and requirements you were asked to meet or thought you needed to meet. Start new. Try to read the Bible through a new lens, one that avoids taking scripture out of context or requiring you to act in a certain way to be “approved” by God.
I grew up going to many churches. From Jehovah’s Witnesses to Catholic, Baptist, and the church where I was baptized, which I don’t know much about.
I thank God now for all of the experiences I got growing up by going to different religions, but I was way more lost in who God is, what he wanted from me, and what the purpose of humanity was. I also thought that I had to work for my salvation and that it wasn’t a gift.
In 2021, I made the decision to start fresh and let go of everything I had previously learned. I chose to ignore past teachings and to read the Bible for what it truly says. My goal was to gain a better understanding of who God is, what salvation really means, what He expects from us, and the history of His people.
Viewing the Bible with this perspective transformed my relationship with God, bringing me closer to Him than ever before.
Step 3: Scripture Centered Church
Find a Church that aligns with what the Bible says, not a “feel good” Church. You want to choose a Church that leans heavily on scripture, not a motivational speaker who cherry-picks scriptures to fit a specific narrative.
There are so many denominations, and you might even think, if God is one, why are there so many!? Honestly, that’s the million-dollar question, but from what I know, many interpret scriptures differently, which is why there are many denominations.
For example, some churches strongly favor infant baptism, and others do not. They instead wait until the person is old enough to understand what baptism is about and their commitment to Jesus Christ.
This YouTube Channel covers religion exceptionally well, and this video specifically discusses the various denominations.
Yes, it is important to attend church. Jesus Christ stated that we should all meet together to encourage one another and build each other up.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” – Hebrewes 10:24-25 NLT

Step 4: Even if You Fall 7 Times
“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.” Proverbs 24:16 ESV
God knows the struggles that you face every single day. It seems like the more you seek him the more you might struggle.
You may have experienced a setback with God or stumbled into temptation, which is entirely normal, given that we live in a broken world. However, it’s essential to get back up. And it requires effort.
It requires discipline and turning away from what caused you to stumble. An ungodly person would turn to themselves, their wealth, and their knowledge, but because you have faith in Christ, you have to turn to him, pray to Yahweh in Jesus Christ’s name, and rely on him for understanding.’
Step 5: God Never Forces you into his presence
Free will is what God has given you. The free will to choose to follow Him or not. The free will to be in His presence or not.
He has provided everything for humanity to see his goodness and that He is the Almighty God. He created the world. He created You.
But he will Never force you to worship Him if you don’t choose to.
Step 6: Quit Being a Lukewarm Christian
While God is forgiving and ready to accept you back into his flock, there will come a time when it will be too late.
God isn’t going to force you into his presence, hence why He gave everyone free will. But he also doesn’t want you to be lukewarm when it comes to following His Word.
“And Elijah came near to all the people and said, ‘How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.’ And the people did not answer him a word.” 1 Kings 18:21
Crystal clear. There is no if, buts, or ands. Chose. Today’s people choose either the world or God.
You cannot have both.
Being a lukewarm Christian for most of my life is something that still genuinely bothers me. Knowing and not listening to God’s Word put me in situations I regretted. Going into the World and back to God when it was convenient, or asking Him for things as if He were a vending machine, is exactly what Elijah was talking about in his time. I finally came to the point where it’s either Yahweh or The World.
I chose Him. Even when I feel the spiritual attacks, I decide to follow Him.

Step 7: Praying to God
Prayer isn’t confined to quiet moments on your knees; it’s simply a conversation with God that you can carry into every part of your day.
When you’re not sure what to say, let Scripture lead the way: the Psalms, especially, offer raw honesty, timeless wisdom, and heartfelt examples of God’s mercy that you can echo in your own words. If your thoughts wander mid-prayer, grab a journal and jot down your praises, requests, or struggles. Writing helps you stay focused and see how God answers over time.
And remember: whether you’re folding laundry, driving the school carpool, or enjoying a sunrise walk, you can lift your heart to Him in prayer at any moment.

- Being hurt by the Church is the worst because it changes the way you view the Church Community. Try a different Church. Since many people have their guards down during church services, it gives some individuals access to those they shouldn’t.

- Guilt is the price we pay for our sins. It’s a considerable weight. But if you turn to God and ask for forgiveness and turn away from your sin, He will forgive you. God is not a liar when he says something. He means it.
