This blog post covers spring cleaning tips and a spring cleaning checklist.
Spring cleaning is right around the corner, as 2026 has begun.
If you’re a mama with little ones, spring cleaning can sound daunting, but these tried-and-true tips will change the way you spring clean every year.
It will save you time and keep you on track so you can get your spring cleaning done in NO TIME.
Doing a deep spring cleaning of your home will help it feel fresh and organized for the busy season ahead.
Without further ado, this is THE Ultimate Guide To Spring Cleaning. Let’s get started!!
An Easy Step-by-Step Spring Cleaning Routine

It Gets Messier Before It Gets Cleaner
This is the hardest part about spring cleaning, especially if you are a clean freak like me, BUT it’s vital.
Step 1: Set a Designated Spot for Things You are Getting Rid of
The first thing you need to do is designate a spot for all the clutter you are getting rid of, whether it’s for donation, trash, or recycling.
By doing this, you will save yourself the stress of having to get rid of a bunch of clutter everywhere!
Step 2: Set a Time Frame
You need to set a start date and a projected end date. This will keep you on task with what actually needs to get done.
Set a time frame that works for your schedule and lifestyle, whether you’re juggling kids, work, or both. You could also hire a little help to declutter or handle childcare if needed.
If hiring help isn’t an option, trust me, spring cleaning is still doable even with a packed schedule.
Step 3: What Vision Do You Have for Your Home
If you are doing a deep spring cleaning, there might be a few reasons, but the most common might be that you are tired of all the clutter and want to reset your home.
Valid.
So here is where having a vision for how you want your home to feel comes through.
If your vision for your home is to be tidier or more organized, or to spend less time cleaning, having this vision will help you get rid of things that are creating clutter.
Step 4: One Room at a Time
Tackle your spring cleaning one room at a time!
You’re a busy mom, and the daily tasks don’t stop! There’s still life going on while doing a deep spring clean.
One room at a time will help you keep the mess and overwhelm at bay.
Step 5: Start With the Room that Needs More Love, aka a Deep Spring Clean
Start with the room that drives you up the wall. The room that has been needing a deep spring clean and decluttering for as long as you can remember.
The number one reason you want to start with the room that needs the most love is that these messy spaces cause a lot of mental stress because you know exactly where the chaos is lurking.
Moving from the bigger messes to the least messy will help you remain focused.
Step 6: Declutter First
BEFORE you even think about cleaning or organizing, you need to declutter.
You can’t clean around the clutter, nor can you keep organizing and reorganizing it to get rid of it. Take everything out, declutter, and set it apart.
This will give the area you cleaned out a new vision of what you actually want to put in there.
10 Things to declutter immediately
- Clothes you haven’t worn all year or that no longer fit (no, you will not wear them this year, that is what you said last year).
- Socks, underwear, shoes, etc.
- Extra cords (chargers, headphones, outdated cords, etc.)
- Broken toys, missing pieces, toys that kids no longer play with, etc. (even extra toys, kids don’t need that many!)
- Junk drawer
- Containers without lids or that are broken or damaged in any way
- Extra mugs, cups, plates, bowls, etc.
- Towels and linens you will not use or need
- Old paperwork, mail, pens, pencils, markers, etc.
- Miscellaneous
Step 7: Clean
Before you start organizing and putting things back, clean it up. Always start from top to bottom. We will cover the best cleaning products below!
Make sure you clean up the spider webs hanging up there, all the way down to your baseboards. You will do this for all of the areas you are cleaning.
Step 8: Organize
After you have decluttered and cleaned, it is time to organize. One tip I will share is: if you find yourself organizing and reorganizing all the time, the problem is not your organizing system; it’s that you have too much stuff!
Spring Cleaning Products That Will Change Your Life

Getting the right products for the right things. For example, if you have wood furniture, get a wood cleaner like Pledge. This ensures that you’re not damaging your furniture but also cleaning it well.
Cleaning Caddy
A cleaning caddy is a game-changer, especially for big cleaning projects like these. They are also so helpful to keep inside the bathroom cabinets for easy access.
Drill Brush Attachments
Save yourself the scrubbing, get yourself drill brush attachments, they will save you time and the scrubbing! It also gets into all of the crooks and crannies.
Glass Cleaner
The OG glass cleaner of them all is the Sprayway Glass Cleaner. A little of this spray goes a long way!
Microfibertowels
Microfiber towels are a must, especially ones that come in different colors. This way, you are not using a kitchen cloth for your bathroom or vice versa.
Scrubdaddys
The King of sponges forever will be Scrubdaddys. There is nothing else that is as durable and long-lasting as these.
Clorox ToiletWand
Getting the Clorox Toilet Wands will save your life! Instead of storing the same plastic toilet brush that can harbor tons of germs and bacteria, use a toilet wand to replace the scrubber with every use!
Deep Cleaning Pods for Dishwasher and Washer
Deep-cleaning pods for your washers are a must!! It can remove all the grime and grease from places not visible to the naked eye. A deep-clean cycle with these pods can lead to cleaner plates and fresher-smelling clothes!
Disposable Gloves
You will be touching some questionable things while you spring clean. One of the best things you can do for your hands is wear disposable gloves. You will most likely come into contact with many chemicals. One way to protect yourself is by wearing gloves.
5 Simple Spring Cleaning Tips
Step 1: Create a Comprehensive Checklist
Let’s be real, spring cleaning sounds overwhelming. Start by creating a checklist that covers all areas of your home, from the kitchen junk drawer to that closet you’ve been avoiding. List each room, then break down specific tasks within each space. This way, you can tackle things in bite-sized pieces instead of feeling like you need to do everything at once.
Step 2: Use a Timer to Stay Focused
Set a timer for each task to maintain focus and momentum. If you get distracted easily or move from one thing to the next without finishing, try the Pomodoro technique: work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. This keeps you energized and prevents burnout during long cleaning sessions.
Step 3: Toss Ruthlessly
Time to channel your inner Marie Kondo. Be honest with yourself: Have you used it in the past year? Does it actually spark joy, or are you keeping it out of guilt? If it’s taking up space without serving a purpose, let it go.
Step 4: Tackle One Renovation Project
You know that one corner of your home that’s been bugging you for months? Spring is your excuse to finally do something about it. It doesn’t have to be a full renovation; even swapping out throw pillows, adding a new plant, or painting an accent wall can completely refresh a space. Pick one project that’ll make you actually excited to be home.
Step 5: Establish a Maintenance Routine
Here’s the secret: you don’t want to do this massive overhaul every spring. Build small habits into your daily routine, 10 minutes of tidying before bed, a quick weekend declutter session. Think of it as maintenance mode instead of crisis mode. Your future self will thank you when spring cleaning becomes a light refresh instead of a full-blown intervention.
