Being a godly mother means being a mama who obeys Yahweh in all that she does.
She seeks him with all her heart through prayer and reading the scriptures daily. Her obedience not only strengthens her faith but also shapes her children’s perception of love and security. For instance, when a mother approaches her child with patience and understanding, guided by her faith, the child senses and learns that love is not just a word but an action. This consistent, faith-driven love in daily routines teaches the child the depth of God’s love and establishes a secure sense of belonging.

Habits of a Godly Mother
Habit #1: Prayer
The first habit you will find in every godly mother is praying fervently. She prays for her children, her husband, her family, herself, the church, friends; she prays over everyone and everything.
Instead of worrying or seeking control, she releases it to God through prayer.
She doesn’t pray only in the morning or at mealtimes; she prays throughout the day and at night.
Before making a decision, she brings it before God so she can make the best decision after seeking God’s counsel. This includes even the simple things in life, such as which school to send her children to, how to discipline after a certain behavior, and how to structure her day so it is pleasing to Yahweh while making the best use of her time.
She understands how powerful prayer is, especially for her children, since she is likely the only one praying for them.
Habit #2: Daily Bible Reading
A godly mother reads her Bible every day. She longs for communion with her savior every day.
Reading the Bible doesn’t always have to be in complete silence; personal Bible reading time can look like reading it to your children, reading it while they play, or reading it before bedtime. Either way, she does not neglect reading God’s Word.

Habit #3: Choosing the LORD over the World Consistently
She continually chooses Yahweh and his method for living a good life, being a good mother, wife, daughter, friend, etc., over what the world suggests.
The world has MANY opinions, 99% of them out of line with what scripture says.
If God hasn’t changed and will never change, why should she? If God doesn’t compromise for the sake of “it’s no longer the old days,” then why should a Godly mother?
Choosing Yahweh over the world frequently means avoiding series or podcasts that involve gossip. Choosing friends who continually seek the LORD in all that they do. Responding in kindness when your husband isn’t kind. It’s being patient when your little one does something they shouldn’t.
Joshua 24:15 – “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Habit #4: Sees the Value in Church
A godly mother recognizes the value of church attendance and makes it a top priority to never miss a meeting.
She understands that church is more than just a weekly event; it is a family, a community where she and her children belong.
By actively participating in church, she demonstrates to her children the importance of belonging to a covenant community where faith is nurtured and relationships are built.
The world and all it has to offer do not become a priority over church service. Extracurricular activities, sports, and similar commitments should not take priority over church.
Habit #5: Devoting Her Life & Time to Her Children
A godly mother is devoted to her children and does not hold it over their heads that she is missing out by spending time with them. She often affirms her love and joy in serving them with phrases such as, “I am blessed to be your mom, and every moment spent with you is a treasure.” This kind of affirmation helps children understand that her devotion is driven by love, not obligation.
Habit #6: Leads by Example
A godly mother leads by example. She practices what she preaches to the point where she cannot stand the saying “do as I say and not as I do.”
A Godly mother understands that what her children see her do or say has a tremendous impact on them and on their walk with the Lord.
Habit #7: Puts Yahweh Before Everything and Everyone
The godly mother puts Yahweh before everything and everyone, including her children. When she looks through a tunnel, there is nothing in front of her, and Yahweh is on the other side. And she can clearly see him. If anything obstructs the view, it can become an idol.
Habit #8: Fruits of the Spirit
The godly mother exhibits many qualities of the fruits of the Spirit. If she is lacking in any area, she brings it to prayer, and through Christ, she can become a better mother.

How to Become a Godly Mother
Becoming a godly mother doesn’t happen overnight, especially if you haven’t been practicing godly habits.
It’s perfectly normal to face challenges like exhaustion, self-doubt, or feeling overwhelmed by daily responsibilities. But just because you haven’t been on this path doesn’t mean you have to keep living that way. Acknowledge these setbacks and remember that God’s grace is there to lift you up when you feel discouraged.
Tip #1: You Cannot Do it By Your Own Strength
In order to build good, godly habits, especially habits that you need to build up your faith and love in Christ, followed by building up your home and directing your children to Christ, you cannot do it on your own; it needs to be guided by the LORD!
If you start creating habits without consulting the LORD first, how will you know those are the habits you need in the first place?
Prayer and reading your Bible are nonnegotiable. Of course, the LORD wants you to pray and to read your Bible. But what about everything else? That is something you have to ask God to guide you in the way that you should walk.
Psalm 32:8 – “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
Tip #2: Start With Small Habits
If you haven’t developed Godly habits yet, start small.
Start with Prayer. Followed by reading God’s Word. Letting the Holy Spirit lead you in the way that you need to grow. And then you will know which habits to instill in your life.
The more you pray and the more you read God’s Word, the more you will understand what God is asking of you.
You will learn how to plan your days, how to raise your children, and what kind of mother and wife you need to be, what your Heavenly Father expects of you, not because he is controlling, but because he loves you and wants you to live a good and long life.
Tip #3: What Godly Habits Does God Want You to Have?
The first inclination that we have is to guess what habits we need, inspired by others, maybe a Christian influencer that you follow.
That should not be the case for you, mama.
Your first inclination should be to seek God through prayer and his word and see what habits He wants you to have.
Deuteronomy 6:4-8 – “Hear, O Israel! Yahweh is our God, Yahweh is one! You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as phylacteries between your eyes.”
Titus 2:3-5 – “Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may instruct the young women in sensibility: to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be slandered.”
Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child according to his way, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
These are a few examples of scriptures that tell you how to live. For example, Deuteronomy 6:4-8 talks about teaching them diligently to your sons. How can you implement that in your daily life so that it becomes a habit?
Tip #4: What is Your End Goal?
The last thing that you want is to create useless habits. Habits that do not provide true meaning to your life now or in the future.
One of the best ways to avoid this is to look at your end goal.
God willing, when you get to the age of 75, what are the habits that you would thank yourself for starting now? What type of children would you have liked to raise? What type of wife and mother would you like your children to remember you as?
Is your end goal to raise God-fearing children who are completely guided by God?
Is your end goal to still be able to move and do things for yourself instead of relying on someone else?
What characteristics would you love for your children to have when they are adults, spouses, parents, friends, etc?
Asking these types of questions will help you create meaningful habits that yield the fruits of your labor.
Tip #5 Be Disciplined
God calls us to be disciplined children. Doing your daily habits requires discipline. You cannot rely on how you feel, how motivated you feel that day, or how much sleep you got last night.
You will never do anything if you base your daily doings on “feelings.”
The discomfort of doing a certain habit only lasts 5-10 minutes before you start doing it. If you can become disciplined to overcome those thoughts you have before you start a habit, you will reap what you sow, which will be developing a good prayer habit, reading God’s Word, and growing in your relationship with him, attending church, and encouraging one another.
Hebrews 12:11 “All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”
Being a Godly Mom
Being a godly mom who develops godly habits will reap joy, peace, patience, discipline, understanding, and fruitfulness.
To become a Godly mom takes time. It takes a mama who trusts in the LORD in all that she does.
