This blog post is all about being a lukewarm Christian in motherhood.
Motherhood can sneak up on your faith, turning even the most passionate believer into a lukewarm Christian.
Between midnight feedings, endless diaper runs, and those unpredictable hormonal waves, carving out time for God often slides to the bottom of the list.
You might remember a season when Scripture was your daily anchor and prayer flowed naturally, but lately, reading the Bible feels routine, and prayer feels like another task to check off.
If you recognize that familiar spiritual half-heartedness in your motherhood journey and want to quit being a lukewarm Christian, then keep reading!!
This blog post will examine the signs of being a lukewarm Christian and guide you in overcoming this state.
Lukewarm Christian Bible Verse
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold. I will spit you out of my mouth!” Revelation 3:15-16“
What does Lukewarm Mean
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold. I will spit you out of my mouth!” Revelation 3:15-16 NLT
Revelation 3:15-16 is the scripture that mentions being a lukewarm Christian. God does not like it when you are lukewarm. He prefers you be either Hot or cold.
Understanding the context of the scripture will help you tremendously.
Jesus was speaking to the church of Laodicea, which was very wealthy in everything except for one thing: it lacked water. Therefore, they needed to pipe it in from two surrounding cities, Hierapolis and Colosse.
Hierapolis had hot springs, which possessed healing qualities, and Colosse had very cold water; however, once these waters reached Laodicea, they became lukewarm.
Hot Springs = Healing
Cold Water = Refreshing
Lukewarm water does neither.
So Jesus said, ‘Because you’re not using your faith to refresh or heal others spiritually, you’re lukewarm, which does nothing.’ It is revolting to Jesus for someone to be so indecisive with their faith.
What is a lukewarm Christian?
What does it look like to be a lukewarm Christian?
It means you go through the motions, attending church, opening your Bible, and saying a quick prayer, but your faith doesn’t shape your everyday life.
You call yourself a Christian, yet your friends or neighbors wouldn’t spot it in how you talk, make choices, or treat others.
Instead of depending on God, you lean on comfort, money, or your own strength. You assume, “I’m fine spiritually,” so you never dig deeper or ask God to grow your heart.
That’s lukewarm faith present in name only but powerless where it truly matters.

10 Signs of a lukewarm Christian Mom
1. Skipping Going to Church
A lukewarm Christian mom skips going to church or goes here and there because it’s “more of a struggle” to keep the kids quiet than just staying home.
They may also consider attending church once the kids are a little older so they can behave. They may also think there is no reason to attend church because they can’t pay attention to the sermon while tending to the kids, rather than being able to sit and listen.
2. Taking the Path of Least Resistance
A lukewarm Christian mom can start taking the path of least resistance. They may let the kids get away with things like watching too much screen time, allowing them to skip doing chores, and not disciplining them, all in hopes of avoiding the tantrums that may follow.
3. Relying on Worldy Advice
Instead of relying on God’s Word to mold your life and your children’s lives, you start turning to the world for advice. Suddenly, you’re getting your information from Reddit threads, social media, or YouTube videos.
4. Not Much Different From The World
You might be a lukewarm Christian if you’re actions, ideas, and beliefs are not much different from the world.
If you continue to participate in things that do not please God, you’re lukewarm. If what you are doing reflects more worldly habits, then you are a lukewarm Christian.
5. Shallow Prayer Life
A lukewarm Christian mom’s prayer life may become shallow or nonexistent. Instead of heartfelt prayers in everyday moments, they become sporadic and more so a request from God, as if He were a vending machine.
6. Resistant to God’s Refinement
If scripture isn’t changing the way that you are living as a mom, then you may be a lukewarm Christian.
The Bible is God’s way of communicating with us on how to live and be like Him since we were created in His Image. It’s here to convict us, turn us away from our wrongdoing, and lead us to follow God.
If you’re brushing off convictions in motherhood, such as anger, impatience, or envy, instead of confessing and seeking change, it will lead you into a lukewarm state of Christianity.
7. Kids activities over Church and family worship nights
Kids’ activities start becoming more important than attending church or family worship. You start skipping Church mornings and family worship nights in the name of, oh, my kid has school activities we need to go to. Or extracurricular activities in the evening that push family worship nights out of the picture.
8. Missed Opportunities for Gospel Conversations
There will be many opportunities for gospel conversations with your children, but you may try to distract them with other things instead of leading them to Christ.
A lukewarm Christian doesn’t engage in gospel conversations even if there is an open door to the conversation.
9. Personal Bible Study in Nonexistent
If you’re reading the Bible to check it off your to-do list, but not diving deep into scripture, you’re lukewarm.
Your personal Bible study is nonexistent, and you start relying on short doses of short-form content to get your Bible reading, which is shallow mainly in terms of understanding.
10. Relies on Self Instead of God
Motherhood has many trying seasons, and sometimes one can turn to relying on oneself instead of relying on God for wisdom, strength, guidance, discipline, and friendship, among other things.

How to Stop being a lukewarm Christian Mom
1. Realize That You’re Lukewarm
The first thing that will help you overcome a lukewarm season in your life as a mom is realizing you are a lukewarm Christian.
You need to self-evaluate and determine where your priorities lie, as well as how to make a change in your life to put God first above all else. Above the mess in the living room, the endless to-do list, and the constant state of business.
Realizing you’re lukewarm can be God’s way of redirecting you back to Him.

2. Pay Attention to Your Spiritual Needs
Pay attention to your spiritual needs.
- Read the Bible daily and in-depth
- Apply Scripture to your life
- Praying Wholeheartedly
- Attending Church & Doing Church Activities
- Meditate on God’s Word Day & Night
3. Surrender & Turn to God
Surrender and turn to God. Give your life and your kid’s life entirely to God, knowing that He is in control over everything.
A question to ask yourself when you feel reluctant to surrender and turn to God is, “What do I think I can do better than God could, and why?”
Turn to God and do His will, not your will.
4. Listen to God
Listen to what God is trying to tell you, whether that is through his Word, the Bible, a Sermon, or through other means.
Being able to listen to God means that you take some time not to be busy and sit with God.
5. Build a Godly Character
Make a conscious effort to grow your faith. Learn about God by immersing yourself in worship by reading the Bible, developing friendships with strong Christian moms, joining a Bible Study group, and praying earnestly.
Build a Godly Character, not a Character of the World.

6. Crave the acceptance of God instead of the world
Let go of the acceptance of others and instead focus on being accepted by God alone, for He is the only one who determines where the souls will go.
God will never change. He is the same forever and ever, unlike humanity, where from one hour to the next, they change their mind about every little thing.
Quit trying to have many worldly mom friends so that your little ones can have friendships and not be the ones left out.
Focus on building and striving for God’s acceptance, as it lays a solid foundation for your little ones to follow.
7. Not Settling For the Bare Minimum
Quit doing the bare minimum and thinking it’s more than enough. For example, don’t read the Word just to read it and not apply it to your life or use it to guide the way that you should walk. If you find yourself reading and forgetting what you’ve read immediately, that’s doing the bare minimum, which will lead you to be a lukewarm Christian.
Immerse yourself in the Church community and do more than you think you can. Attend Bible study nights and prayer nights, attend church on weekends, and fellowship with other women, etc.
Always strive to build a solid foundation of faith.
8. Overcome Being a lukewarm Christian
Living in a state of lukewarm Christianity is a choice, not a feeling. If you know you’re being lukewarm and do nothing about it, it is entirely your choice. And God does NOT like those who are lukewarm.
God says in Revelation 3:19, “…be diligent and turn from your indifference.“
Now that you have realized you might be living a lukewarm life, it is time to turn from it.
Conclusion: Lukewarm Christian
Being a lukewarm Christian mama is a choice. God calls us to be either hot or cold, not in the middle, where there is no impact in you being a follower of Christ.
Either heal others with God’s Word or Refresh them with God’s Word. It is better to do one or the other than to be indifferent about it.
